Please read below for more information to prepare you for your training:
Attendance:
You have the option to attend in person or via live webinar.
In person: The classroom is located at 9620 NE 2nd Ave., Ste. 205, Miami Shores, FL 33138. Park in the lot behind the building and come up the outside stairway, then through the hall towards the front of the building to Suite 205. There is a sign for the International Institute of Clinical Sexology on the door. We have hot and cold water in the classroom, coffee, a small refrigerator, and a microwave down the hall. There are several restaurants within a 3-block area and you are welcome to bring your lunch to the classroom. We also have wi-fi available for you.
Live webinar: We use zoom.us for our webinars. You will receive an invitation for each class via email and can log on from half an hour before class starts to any time during class. Please log on early the first day in case you need help. Once class has begun, we are not able to stop to help you. If you do need help, call Dr. Clark at 305-773-8785 or Dr. Batista at 786-423-4612. When you log on, please enter your full name. Choose the Computer Audio option unless you prefer to call in on your phone. Using the computer audio, it’s best to use a headset. If you do call in on the phone, make sure you mute the computer to prevent feedback. During the class, please keep your audio muted to reduce background noise. We welcome your questions and comments any time you care to unmute and participate. You may choose to turn your video on or keep it off. We may ask you to turn it on to introduce yourself. We will also ask you to check in periodically to confirm your attendance. You also have the option to chat during the class. Explore zoom to become familiar with the different features and options.
Breaks: We will take a 10-minute morning and afternoon break and a lunch break that may be an hour or an hour and a half. Check the agenda. We will try to start on time and appreciate everyone being on time as well, especially when we have panel members or guest speakers.
Panels: There are three panels during the training – a generally diverse panel on the first day to introduce you to transgender people, and a family and adolescent panel and a senior panel during Part 2. You will have the opportunity to ask questions of the panel members during the class and also during the breaks, whether you are attending in person or via webinar.
Guest Speakers: In addition to our core of presenters made up of our Board members, we invite additional speakers who are experts in their areas. These include a legal expert and medical professionals who can speak about surgeries and hormones. You will be able to ask questions and be given their information to contact them in future.
Supervision/Case Consultation: All students need 4 hours of case consultation for certification. This gives them the opportunity to process various cases and for the Board to assess their skills. Case consultation is available via webinar and will have various scheduling options. Students will also need to provide a sample of a letter of recommendation for either hormones or surgery for approval by two Board members. Students will share their own or benefit from others’ cases. Cases will be presented using the Case Consultation form we will provide.
Handouts and Resources: We keep all of these on Google Drive and share that folder with you. In addition to documents and presentations, we store the class recordings and students will all have access to those. Students will need a gmail account. These documents are also available on the Student Portal on this website – please note that you must be approved by our web admin to access these.
Board Certification: Upon completion of the education, case consultation, and payment of tuition, students will become either Board Certified Transgender Care Therapists or Board Certified Transgender Care Professionals. You will be able to add your professional listing to both websites – www.TransgenderCertification.com and www.TherapistCertification.org –and join the TCA listserve. You will have access to the Board members and other professionals for ongoing consultation. You will be entitled to a discount on other TCA programs. Finally, these certification credits will count towards a Ph.D. in Clinical Sexology (see www.ClinicalSexologyPhD.org ).
