Carey Patrick Wertz, LCPC, TCT, SEP, EXAT, Ph.D.
Dr. Carey Patrick Wertz (they/them/their) is a licensed clinical professional counselor and a Board Certified Transgender Care Therapist with a Ph.D. in Social Foundations of Education from the University of Georgia. Carey identifies as panromantic asexual and nonbinary, transmasculine. They integrate the person-centered approach, somatic experiencing (SEP), focusing, and expressive arts therapy (EXAT) into their work with clients. Carey has experience working with historical trauma, intergenerational trauma, depression, anxiety, identity-related challenges, interpersonal concerns, LGBTQIA2S+ issues, and more. Carey is originally from Georgia but has lived in China and recently moved to Maine in which they work as a mental health counselor at Colby College. Before joining Colby, they worked the last eight years at a tribal college in Montana as both a faculty member in human services and a mental health counselor. Outside of work, Carey is an obsessed marathon and ultramarathon runner, a living kidney donor, a horror movie fanatic, and a gothic punk rocker.
