Dr. Carol Clark has been supporting and counseling individuals who identify as transgender or gender non-conforming for more than 20 years. As she received calls from people in most of the United States and from other countries, she realized the need for training more healthcare professionals in this field and created the International Transgender Certification Association. This program is both a stand-alone certification program and also a specialty area for the International Institute of Clinical Sexology's PhD program.
Dr. Clark has continually facilitated a transgender support group at the Pride Center in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, since 1994. She also provides individual, couples, and family therapy to those people whose pain has become overwhelming, those who are transitioning, and those who have transitioned but are still in need of counseling and support.
In addition to her transgender work, Dr. Clark has several certification programs, the IICS PhD program, and is the author of Addict America: The Lost Connection. This book is an invaluable resource for anyone who recognizes how our addictive lifestyles lead to disconnection with each other and with our spiritual lives.
